Probably not the VVT pulley
Hello I am writing to you because I am encountering a small (I hope) problem with my Volvo S40 from 2000This is the 1.6 16V 109hp version, it makes noise I thought it might be the VVT pulley, but I read that if the noise goes away when the solenoid and unplugged, it's not the VVT pulley... When I unplug the solenoid, the noise continues, my gasoline car sounds like a diesel The car does not take temperature, no leaks were encounteredShe takes her turns well, no loss of power The timing kit was changed recently I was wondering if it could not be because of a bad wedging... I hope that a passionate will help me ... I specify that it has only 133100kms on the clock

well, your car is 20+ years old and as such should be on its third timing belt and as part of that service the idler and tensioner should have been replaced. Not sure what you mean by "bad wedging" when the timing kit was replaced. If your power is normal, then the tech probably set the VVT pulley correctly and I assume they would have noticed any oil leaks typical to a failing VVT. My thought is to try a couple things 1) remove the timing belt cover - do you hear the sound get notably louder? 2) use a piece of tubing as a stethescope and listen around the components of the serpentine belt - ie power steering pump, altnernator, AC compressor, idler pulleys etc. 3) Does the sound change when you throw on a full electrical load? when you turn from side to side? when you click on the AC?
