So I got the egine all back in and hooked, up. Runs good no sputtering. The "service engine light" comes on for like a minute and then shuts off everytime. The check engine light is on and throwing codes P0014 and P0133. From what I read one is cam shaft sensor and possible 02 sensor? Any ideas? The only thing i notices is an occasionl puff of white smoke out tail pipe. No oil leaks.

I had a similar camshaft code after replacing the head and CVVT gear on my 2001. For me it was the CVVT gear being out of place like maybe 10 degrees. I ended up making a cam tool out of mild steel and bolting it to the head to hold the exhaust cam from moving. I did this after setting up the cam perfectly level with the case halves by using a very small straight edge to make absolutely sure the cam was lined up. My earlier attempt was done by "eyeballing" level and that was not good enough. Plus when torquing the CVVT gear you place tremendous force on the cam so it's extremely important for the cam not to move even 1 degree.

Starting was a just a tad bit longer. You could tell starting was not the same as before but the engine ran smooth as silk once running. The whole point of the CVVT is to advance and retard the cam because of the advantages gained at low rpm vs high rpm or cruise. In cars with fixed cam timing you can buy timing gears that allow you to move the cam 1 tooth advanced or retarded, for instance, to get more low rpm torque. You sacrifice high rpm horsepower but in low revving motors it doesn't matter.

ok..i see what you mean. ive decided to take the turbo out and check the inner seals. its throwing white smoke out the tail pipe. smells sweet...im guessing its a coolant leak. i know the head gasket it good. im taking it out too because i believe its one of the oil lines that are leaking. im switching out the old ones to new ones. did you ever take just the turbo out?

Check the spark plugs too. If the leak is in the turbo then your plugs will look normal. If the leak is the head gasket then you will have at least one bright white (steam cleaned) spark plug.
I've not removed the turbo. Even when I pulled the head I left the turbo in place. I have read a thread though where the poster said he replaced just the turbo. There seems to be room to work with the heat shield removed.

i pulled the turbo and the impeller is "smokey white". I am guessing its from some seal that leaked coolant into the turbo. does that sound right? all the plugs are good, no head leak. Does anyone have a turbo parts breakdown? i cant figure out how to post the pic here....it put it in my "garage"
