Proud new owner - S40 2.5T AWD
Hello all. As of noon today, I’ve now become a proud owner of an 08’ Volvo S40 2.5T AWD! My wife has been begging me to get rid of my 03’ Land Rover Discovery for some time now. I had originally planned on purchasing another SUV, but decided on getting a car instead. I’ve been spending way too many weekends working on the Discovery and was just tired of keeping up. I absolutely loved the vehicle, but the gas mileage and maintenance was becoming too costly.
The S40 is in fabulous condition with only 45K miles on it. It’s dark grey with black interior (cloth seats). I knew I was going to buy it the first moment I drove it. I also test drove a 2010 S40 with about 60K miles, but it didn’t have AWD or Turbo and left me wanting more. Safety was obviously an important selling point, as we’re thinking about starting a family soon.
I haven’t seen many issues posted about the 08’ and above S40s, which seems like a very good thing. Is there anything I should know moving forward? Any little things you folks have swapped out right away? For my Disco, the first thing I did was replace the front drive shaft, hopefully nothing as major as that lol. Any major quirks I should know about?
Thanks!

Like you, I got rid of my Land Rover (02 Freelander) due to all sorts of problems with repairs and things continually going wrong, ridiculous parts costs, etc. Soooooo glad I got rid of it and got into my 2004.5 S40 a year ago. Way better gas mileage and its been trouble free so far.
I think you'll enjoy many years driving your new car. Whatever issues you do have will be much less frequent, much less costly to fix, and your Volvo will give you a lot more peace of mind overall.
Good luck to you!

My 2009 S40 T5 AWD is just around 51K...just replaced the OEM tires and the warranty repairs include fixing an angle gear leak at 4K, replacing the driver's side LED stop light, replacing the front rotors (actually maintenance), replacing the battery a few months ago, and they swapped out the radio unit because of AM reception problems which I still have. Not as bulletproof as my Toyota Highlander was in the first 50K miles but I have no significant complaints.
