Default Question & Help: Turbo

I have a 2001 S40 1.9T and now the check engine light is on because the turbo is not working.

I am thinking of replacing it with a bigger turbo. Good idea?

I don't know which turbo it currently has (Most likely a TD04?), I've always had my mind on a KKK K26 turbo, will this work?

Saw some K26/6 turbo for sale on ebay from old Porsches, will these work on my car?

Thanks! for anyone that helps!

The most popular option is the 14T turbo (TD04H-14T) from the European T4 model which is a direct bolt-on and is somewhat readily available; yours (I'm assuming is the 1.9T US version) is a 12T. If you're going to upgrade the turbo, make sure you have brought the car to stage zero to ensure it is ready for the extra boost. If you've taken care of the auto and don't have issues with the engine it should be able to handle the added boost, although YMMV. The US version made 160HP; the Euro T4 made 200HP, which should be a plenty healthy gain for most of us

No problem - lets us know how it goes!

The old s40concepts.net site had a wealth of how-tos on this - might be worth your time to dig around on archive.org, as the site doesn't seem to be up anymore
