Question Question? "Reduced Engine Performance"

Hello Everyone,

Last night while driving on the highway, a warning light came on in my 2005 Volvo S40 T5. As the title indicates, it was the "Reduced Engine Performance" message. After this light came on, I was unable to accelerate past the speed I was going and the car was not shifting or at least not properly. It scared me a bit as I wasn't sure what was going on. After parking on the side of the road, turning the car off/on again the warning went away and the vehicle worked great again.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know much about it?

Thank you!

You need to have the codes read.

Dropped my vehicle off at the dealership yesterday to have the codes read and if anything needs fixed to get that done as well. Will update this thread once I know the whole story.

Just for the future reference, you can and should (having a Volvo ) buy a code reader, some of them even read the ABS codes. But having this tool you are enabled to keep the dealer honest, or avoid the need to go to the dealer altogether.

Agreed. I bought a cheap one from Amazon under $20 and it read my Volvo codes just fine and can clear them too. No way I'm paying upwards of $100 for someone to "scan" my car, and them throw parts at it until its fixed I can throw parts at my own car myself myself thank you very much!

Fuel pressure sensor. My 2005 T5 did this to me also.
