Default Quick question

A friend of mine has a 2000 S40 and I was wondering if the window switch on the drivers side door is supposed to make it go up as well as down? It sounds stupid but it didnt work and I was wondering if it were a reason or mearly needs a new switch. Thank you for any help.

There is no express up, safety feature.

The window should Auto Down the go up with the switch manually.

So the switch n the door should make the window go up as well not auto but up and if so and it does not work the switch is the thing to replace? Thanks tech
