Default Replaced cigarette lighter, several lights are out!

I put in a USB lighter replacement for the factory cigarette lighter but now several lights are out.
Gear shift indicator light, climate control lights and speedometer and gauges on dash, all other lights work on vehicle.

I have a hard time believing all bulbs blew simultaneously BUT I have checked all over for a bad fuse. I am convinced there is not a bad fuse in my passenger compartment as I have checked most.

I have not looked in the engine bay yet but do not think there is one that would effect these lights being out all at once.

I obviously shorted something out a fuse/relay What could possibly be the culprit of why the lights underlined above are all not working?

Any help would be appreciated. The USB lighter replacement work well but was a terrible choice seeing how many lights are now out but seems it should be something simple I am missing.

Thanks

what year is your car? did you check the owner's manual for various fuse box locations and specific fuses?

volvowiringdiagrams.com may help you find what's in play...

Thanks mt6127

I should have put it is a 2003 S40. I have looked at my owners manual but found nothing. Fuses I have eliminated are for example, if radio/windows/seats/power antenna etc are working, then I know it is not on that fuse. I have checked and pulled each fuse in passenger compartment that I thought it might be.

From your link

This is in engine bay but I ruled it out as well as my power antenna goes up and down as it should as well as several others function.

Could it have something to do with distribution rails? This is stumping me as I have looked all over and would have thought it would be simple and an easy find.

From the post directly above, it lists 5/1 as fuse location....I thought the location was fuse # 8 for "combined instrument panel"

It is a little confusing how they number fuse location, especially when they have multiple diagrams for engine bay fuse box.

I checked the bulb from the gear selector switch and it is a good working bulb so I believe all my bulbs are good.

I also removed every fuse from the engine bay and checked them to rule out by process on elimination but all were good including the three transport fuses

I also disconnected battery for 15 minutes but that did nothing so I am going to remove every fuse from passenger fuse box but do not think it will resolve anything.

on a side note, I do almost all daytime driving so for night I can place a battery operated LED below speedometer and clearly see it, rudimentary I know but with Velcro will do the trick but really want to find the culprit.

there are relays wired into the CEM as well (its a small box under the dash by the hood latch handle). The wiring diagram site should show whether the CEM is in the service path. Good news is on the gen 1s the CEM can be swapped out without programming/pairing.

@mt6127

I have looked at the wiring diagrams, a little confusing as there are so many that all seem to be the correct one.

I was in at the shop that replaced my cvvt gear and was told to look at fuse box below glove compartment. I think the glove box fuse box started in the 2nd gen S40 because I can not find one.

Are there only two fuse boxes on the 2003 S40? or is another one under glove box?

Under the glove box is the newer model.

on my 2000 S40, I only know of the one under the hood and the second under the dash by the hood release (which is also where the CEM is )

I only have the 2, my mechanic threw me for a loop when he mentioned the one under glove compartment, he probably forgot what year I had.

I still have not solved this even though I have gone through every fuse one by one in engine bay and checked almost all in passenger compartment. Seems like it should be straight forward as there is nothing else wrong with car's electrical and this only happened last week when I changed out my cigarette lighter for a USB charger.
