Replacing Rear Wheel Hub - 2000 S40

![Question](https://volvoforums.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I have a 2000 S40 and wanted to know if anybody knows what size of the wheel hub retaining nut is? I just don't want to start the job and find out that I need to go pick up a bigger socket. Thanks. I will post pictures of the job so people in the future can look at this for reference.

Here is a quick pic from the top and bottom of the assembly (Bolt sizes noted in picture):

Once cover is removed, remove the nut. Once nut is removed, pull off hub from axel stud. A 'puller' would work perfect here. However, I was able to pull mine off with my hands by pressing on the axel stud and pulling on the outside of the hub.

Once the hub is removed, you have to remove the wheel speed disk from the back of the hub pictured below. There are 2 bolts, I believe they are 12 mm but they might be smaller. Sorry, I can't remember to many beers

Lube this up with any wheel bearing/cv joint/ball joint grease:

New hub is installed with wheel speed disk mounted on the back. Nut is tightened to 89 ft/lbs followed by a 60 degree turn. NOTE: MAKE SURE THE DISK IS MOUNTED WITH THE TEETH POINTED AWAY FROM THE BACK OF THE HUB TOWARD THE SPEED SENSOR!!!!!

Once that is completed, reinstall in reverse order.
1. Put Cap back on
2. Put rotor back on
3. Replace caliper bracket
4. Replace caliper with brake pads
5. Put tire back on and tighten to 100 ft/lbs (I know the spec is a little lower, I don't mind having the tires a little tight on my car since I know I will be able to get the lugs off if I need to replace a tire. On my fiance's car I would be sure to tighten to the spec so it would be easier to remove.)
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I also have more pictures that I can post if people have any questions about any of the steps.
Cheers.
