Default Replacing windshiled wiper arm on 2002 s40

I need to replace the windshield wiper arm on the passenger side of my 2002 Volvo s40.

I do not think that I can do it.

The passenger side arm is also made by Volvo for this 2002 Volvo s40.

It has a strange attachment with some kind of cap where it is attached at its base below the windshield. I think one has to remove the cap in order for the wiper arm to be removed and replaced.

What tools are needed?

The attendant at AutoZone where I bought the arm was very mechanically capable, but was unable to do this.

Again, what type of tools are required?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,

That cap just pops off, mine come off by hand but maybe just use a flat head to pry them off. Under the cap is a nut that holds the wiper arm on, I think I used a deep well socket to get to it.

Was the arm broken or just bent? Both of my wiper arms were bent and the blades were not making good contact with the windsheld. Instead of replacing I just removed them and put a tighter bend in the flat steel part of the arm, not the aluminum base.

Default The wiper arm and wiper blade do not clean during a sweep

I do not know if it was bent or not. The passenger wiper (which was also replaced) was unable to clean that part of the windshield during a sweep. The wiper was replaced with a new one, no joy.

So the next item was to replace the arm. That is where I experienced trouble and hence the posting on the forum.

I will try what you said and see if it works.

if you look at the pivot, there's a small slot on the side of the cap. use a small tip screw driver to pop that up and you'll see a single nut. undo that and the arm will slide up and off the pin. If in a hurry, plan B is to manually put a little more bend in the arm so it puts more pressure on the blade. There's a few Youtube videos on doing this as its also a common problem to the 850s. (the basic idea is to put something under the middle of the arm and press the blade end down towards the window to give it some arc)
