Got a 2002 s40. Just got a oil leak from timing belt area.has any body seen this before.

Yes. Probably the VVT pulley. Less likely - camshaft seal.

my 2000 has a small leak from the crankshaft front seal.

Yes, it is a well known issue. There are a couple areas to look for leak mainly. The seals behind the CVVT gear on the exhaust cam and the regular gear on the intake cam, the little "plunger" looking thing on the CVVT itself, and the crank gear seal. If you notice oil on top of the engine look for a cracked gasket on the oil fill cap, a clogged up PCV system, or maybe the CVVT solenoid leaking.
