s40 2004 drivers door wont open
Hello all I wonder if anyone can help.
I have an s40 new shape 2004 2l diesel and I love it
well mostly
Today it decided that it didn't want to open its drivers door.
Initially the key fob opened all other doors but left the drivers locked so I locked it and then pressed the unlock button again and the door button then popped up and it opened.
Then I came to lock it again and when I came back to it, it wouldn't open again and now wont at all.
All other doors open so I am climbing across to get into the drivers seat.
From the inside the door handle will pull and the **** goes up but the door still wont open.
The internal door lock electrical switch on the drivers door is working and locking and unlocking the other doors but wont unlock the drivers door.
The drivers door isn't clicking when the electrical switch is pressed.
It appears to be electrically dead locked and I presume there is a problem between the electrical door switch and or the door lock.
The door wont even open using the the key from the fob.
I suppose the door will need to be stripped down but cant see how to do it unless the door is opened.
But I cant open it.
Any suggestions would be gladly received.
regards
Mark

This may not be related to your problem, but my 2006 S40 has had on-going problems with the wiring harness inside the doors. The doors have never been un-lockable, but the windows have frequently refused to cooperate. Sometimes the controls on the passenger door don't work, but they will work on the driver's door. However, sometimes the driver's door controls won't work unless I open and close the door a few times.
Maybe if you can "gently" thump the door a few times, it may restore a loose connection and you can get your door to unlock.
In my case, I assume my car has a loose connection that the dealer hasn't been able to track down. Pain the butt, as one out of warranty repair included a $450 switch! Never had these kinds of problems with the ol' "analog" door window cranks...LOL.

hmmmm well thanks
But I have tried all of that and still no joy
I haven't tried to get the panel off yet
Looking forward to that particular event.
I did have a problem a year or so ago with spurious electrical faults
Key not being recognised
daft messages like instant break failure
and the windows playing up
I messed about and undid the fuse box it sprung open and relieved some pressure on the connections and had been fine ever since.
Its getting a right **** clambering across the centre
