My 2002 Volvo S40 AC puts out cold air for a while and then suddenly puts out warm or hot air. A few seconds later it again puts out cold air. This has happened several times. Please let me know what components may be failing.

The compressor clutch might need to be reshimmed. When it stops blowing cold air check for power at the compressor. If you have power and the compressor is not running then it needs to be reshimmed.
