2000 V70 with 155k miles.

A/C runs fine for 10-15 minutes then smells kind of funny and air turns much warmer, not hot, but it is clear that it's very different.

Any ideas?

Probably low on coolant. You might want to try adding a can and see if that fixes the problem. I've used the cheap kits from auto parts stores, but just once if problem persists I would have it check out by somebody who knows the A/C system.

 

Most likely the A/C compressor is bad.
The clutch gets to worn to stay engauged when it is hot then it disenguages.
When it happens try CAREFULLY tapping the center of the clutch on the compressor with a stick and see if it comes back on.

That exact thing happened to me. I just put more freon in and it fixed it. Mine would click on and off about every 45 seconds.

 

We actually have 2 customers complaining of this same problem. After hooking up the gauges, the freon level is normal and pressure good. I was suspecting the clutch getting hot.
