Default s40 Angel Eyes

I know there are not specific angel eye lights for this model and i am willing to put them in my self. however, i took out my headlights and am very bad with cars and cannot seem to find out the specs of my lights so i can buy the right size angel eyes. i have a volvo s40 2005. if anyone has any input or knows the specs that would be great. thx

Welcome to the forum. All you need to do is open up the headlight and measure the diameter of the plastic ring that goes around the projector. Get the halos to match the measurements you take and install. Or you can go the route I did by drilling out 10 holes in the plastic and adding 10mm or so LED's.
Here's my old S40's custom angel eyes me and a buddy did so you can see better what I'm talking about...

i had a problem removing the light so i could measure it in diameter because some screw was stuck behind a plastic piece that wold not allow the screw to exit its holder. the plastic piece would also not move. the link above is to a picture that shows the screw and plastic piece labeled because i do not know how to post a picture in a thread . if you could help that would be great. thx

I remember that damned screw. Lol. I was able to get it out with a torx bit. You just have to get at it from the best angel you can. IIRC I used a multi purpose screw diver with the torx bit attachment.

The "Zoom" part is the projector lens and that sounds about right. Though it's been about 3 years since I've owned my S40. And depending where you order the Halos from you will probably need the circumference not the diameter.. That was my bad, I had diameter stuck in my head for some reason.

instead of going back into my head lights because it was a pain in my but i just plugged the diameter i got into the equation c=pi*D, so for the projector lens i got c=2 and 1/2 X 3.14 which got me 7.85 inch circumference. for the plastic ring i got c=4 X 3.14 which got me 12.566 inch circumference. i just want to make sure this works and the measurements sound ok. if so what measurement angel eye would i buy for a 7.85 because im assuming they dont sell the angel eyes in that precise measurements.

sorry for all the questions its just that this is the first real thing i have done to my car other than the ghosted tail lights.

It's all about where you want to mount the angle eyes to. I think it would look best mounted behind the clear plastic ring that surrounds the projector lens. That way the headlights will still look good in the day light and not like something that you added. I could only guess that you equations are correct, like I said, I haven't had my S40 for about 3 years.
How are the angle eyes sold, In a strip that you can bend? If that's the case, go on the long side and you can overlap the strip so you wont have any missing spots in the halo. There was a guy on SS that got his too short and it looked funny cause there was about a 2" break in the light. Depending on how it's sold, you may be able to order it to length. Out of curiosity, where are you ordering the lights from?

i have been looking around at some of these sights but i cant find any that sell them by dimensions rather than factory brand. i also was wondering if all the lights have the same connector or if i would have do do work there?

Looking at those sights, you're right, it looks like they only sell replacement headlights with the led's and halos already installed. Gotta keep in mind here, we drive Volvo's, tuning and modding is not the easiest thing with these cars. And we have no where near the kind of product support that the JDM or other Euro cars have.

That said, You're gonna have to go more of a custom route, and build your own. It's more demanding but the look will be very unique. Maybe try to find a LED strip that you can attach to the clear plastic circle. Or Contact these guys to see what the dimensions of this kit is, or if they can get them in a larger or smaller size for you S40. http://store.sharphid.com/product_p/ddemz3.htm

What connector are you referring to?

what i meant by connector was how will the lights get power. what do i plug them into. if i get a different car brand light will they still plug into the head light and get power. im not sure how to describe it.

sorry for the long response i did not know there was a second page. fml.

Gotcha. In a short answer no, they will not get power. If you got a different car brand light, how to connect the lights would be the last of your worries. The overall shape of the headlight will not work for your car because they will not fit into the car. If want a replacement headlight that already has the halos installed you HAVE to get something designed specifically for the 04.5+ S40.

As of right now, if you want halos, the only way to do it, is by going a custom route similar to what I did.

Find some of the LED strips on eBay and install them behind the plastic ring and wire them to your driving lamps.

No worries about the delayed response time.

The car in last last pic is bad @ss. Where can I but the headlight like this one? I have a 2005 S40 2.4i.

As it stands my headlight is not very helpful. It seems like it points down a lot. Also where could I find the front sender just like this car?

It's all the same car, and Thank you. I spent a lot of time getting it to look just the way I wanted.

Read through this whole thread and you'll see it was a 100% custom job.

Nobody sells these lights, the design was created by another guy on SS and originally done by him with me helping. I further tweaked it a few weeks later with different LED's and a different wiring set up.

I'm guessing by "front sender" you're talking about the front part of my body kit??? If so, it the Evolve kit. Oh yeah, Evolve is now known as Elevate.

If you're having a problem with your lights pointing down, IIRC there is a way to adjust them to point more up. I just cant remember how to do it. I haven't owned this car since July of '08. Also keep in mind, LED's won't do much of anything to help illuminate the road. Your best bet for brighter light's is to do an HID upgrade from Sharphid.com. Read this thread. https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s40-11/s40-headlight-upgrade-48680/

This thread is specifically for Angel Eye's for the 2004.5+ S40's. Fill out your information such as your Location, Car Specifics, ect..
Then start a new thread asking your questions.
I don't mean to come off like a jerk but you need to read the stickey's threads at the top of the S40 section, specifically this one....https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s40-11/volvoforums-resources-thread-7319/, This will answer your question's and give you more specific questions to ask instead of such a vague question like you're looking for everything.

Nice find Jeff! That looks like it is exactly what you guys could use to make the halo's. Only thing to do would be to measure the plastic piece that surrounds the projector lens, and then order the proper size and do a test fit.

Looking forward to seeing you guys do this.
