S40 makes a rattle noise after long trip. Please help!
Hi,
I have a 2006 S40 that I just took on a 250 mile round trip. I got back yesterday and went this am to start the car and there was the most terrible rattle sound coming from under the hood. The car still drove (took it 3 miles to the store). However, the check engine light is now on. No other lights are on. The car didn't rattle or make any noises on trip. I drove about 80 miles per hour. I am scared to drive it anymore and can't call a mechanic until Monday. Any ideas? It isn't leaking anything (at least I don't see anything under the car). I keep up with all the maintenance and have never had any problems like this before. The mileage is at 85,000 miles. Thank you! Heather

Any chance you or anyone you know have a scan tool?
Only way we would be able to give any incite on the issue would be to have the codes that triggered the CEL. Most auto-zones or O'Rileys type of auto stores will pull the codes for you for free. If you have a place near you, see about getting over there and telling us what the codes are.

The heat has been making my S40 act weird. The check engine light was on , but since it has cooled off all is well. I did take it in and the codes are 24 and 44. Any idea on how to find out if that's a pbig problem?
Need a little more help on those codes. Could you get the full description with the code? Also, it should read P0XXX for a code. Plus any other info like year and engine would help since the major change in styles/engines between 2000-2004 and 2005+.
