S40 Poor Defroster and High Idle Speed

S40 Poor Defroster and High Idle Speed
Can anyone steer me in the right direction for these two problems I am having with my 2002 S40?
1. Front windshield defroster works poorly..... no volume of air even when directed to the windshield at 5 fan speed. Air flow ok at floor and front vents.
2. Fast idle at startup (1200 rpm) and takes a long time to get to normal 700 rpm. I have also noticed that when it is idling fast and I drive it anyway, the transmission shifts at higher than normal rpms.
Any help would be appreciated.
