Default s40 questions

looking to get a volvo s40 and have some questions. a couple years ago my parents had a volvo and it had the turbo and every time they had it serviced something always had to be done. do they still do that? also, what octane do you recommend?

Well I suggest you get...

850 turbo, T5R or R

s70 turbo, T5, R (If you can find an R in the states or Canada buy it)

v70 turbo, T5, R

c70 LPT or HPT

These are the models you should be looking into.

-----------------------

A car is always going to have something to get fixed. And Volvo's are prone to it. Just expect it and more so on the new models being that they will be more exspensive to fix.

Well what year s40?

IMHO I hate them.

I think the first gen s40's are ok but anything newer is just crap.

Newer volvo's are prone to problems and older ones are not...coinsidently, the fine line between the two corresponds to the 1998, when Ford bought Volvo....hmmmm. Turbo's by nature require more love than just your plain old engine and if you parents were taking to somewhere

The S-40 is a fine car. My brother in law has one over in Germany right now.....which is a funny story since his was bought in England. The majority of opinions out there say you should never buy into a car the year it debues...for the S-40, I'm not sure when that was. But Just recently Volvo started fighting off the Ford virus and now their cars are almost up to their previous standards but there are a few years where it's probably just best to avoid them. I don't think the S-40 falls into that category

The 2000 is ok but the 2001-2004 are overall good cars.

The average one is better than the S70's with problems.

There is minor things that go wrong with them but not as much as with the 850,S70's

The 2004.5 is the new body style which IMO Im not to fond of either.

I have a 2002 S40 with 70 k on the clock.Car has been absolutely trouble free except for the climate control module in the A/C.Gets good mpg, runs very strong for a 1.9 liter engine, comfortable and handles well. My only gripe is that there are few aftermarket speed parts for it and when u do find some they aint cheap.Otherwise I would highly recommend the car. BJ

lol...i never finished that thought did I?

as I was saying....Turbo's by nature require more love than just your plain old engine and if you parents were taking it somewhere that wasn't familiar with Volvo's then it's no wonder they had to keep bringing it back

the end
