S40 Shift Problem
Howdy! My 2010 S40 2.4 has a shift problem; car has a few thousands miles left on warranty, dealer says "unable to duplicate". It is the 1-2 upshift, surges / jerks. Happens mostly when cold and after 30 minutes or more on freeway (after stopping). A friend at a AAMCO shop told me this is a Nissan trans that has a valve body bore problem and is fixed by replaced the valve body assembly. He said there should be a Volvo tech service bulletin. Does anybody know how to find bulletin??? Thanks. Jen
Not that I ve a soln or suggestion but it comes to me a s a surprise if VOLVO will use a Nissan.
I understand lot of Japanese compressors and Alum radiators are used in Germans cars...while Swedes stick with European hardware...including stuff made in England...for access/transportation reasons.
Even if Volvo were to use a Jap Tmssn, it would make more sense for a Toyota or Honda...not Nissan.

Since Volvo was owned by Ford you'd think, well, Ford trans. I know my 2005 has FoMoCo all up under the hood.
Has the car thrown any codes? Could it be the Electronic Throttle Control? When dirty they start acting up. Your car is still pretty new though. Shouldn't be acting up at all.

Thats true about Ford ownership...but to force a Ford transmission on a Volvo engine will require considerable changes, but changing the total set of Eng + tranny will make more sense...BUT...that too will need adjustments in the engine compartment...since Volvo styling and attitude is different...in placement of engine elements, particularly when dealing with turbo, and intercooling.
I remember Toyota Engine, trans and body...all named as GEO Metro, by GMC...meaning to do bastardization is difficult unless a long term benefit is envisioned.
Sad that a 3 cyl metro engine was very good but ugly Metro body and cheapness didnot help it when gas was $1.00/g. Even the Logo Metro was 'printed' on the back...not even a cast plastic emblem...BUT GMC did offer a Metro convertible version ..LOL!
Today with gas reaching $3.50/g, and metro delivering 40 mpg...it could compete with MINI...very nicely in price...and that single secretary...couldnot go wrong with two seats and some room for her groceries...she never needs 0 to 60 in even 6 seconds.
