S40 Transmission - 2nd and 4th gear
2006 S40 T5
I gunned it one day pulling out of a parking lot and shortly down the road my check engine light came on and then the car went into limp mode. It is only running in 2nd and 4th gear. I took it to the Volvo dealership and they quickly told me it needed a new transmission and that they wouldn't even do it because the car wasn't worth as much as that would cost (240,000+ miles on it). I love this car and it was a wedding present and our honeymoon trip to pick it up in Sweden, so I don't want to give up that easily. It is throwing two error codes, TCM-0108 Shift Solenoid and TCM-0192 GSM Module Fault. I replaced the Gear Selector Module, just in case it was that and tried to re-set my computer to get it out of limp mode. Well, it won't leave limp mode. I've tried all the tricks with pulling fuses and unplugging the battery for an extended amount of time to try to get the computer to reset, but as soon as I start it up again, it is still in limp mode. The car bangs a little when you go from reverse into drive, but otherwise drives just fine in limp mode. Any suggestions, or am I really just down to a choice of replacing the transmission or scrapping it?
