Winter mode

RE: Winter mode
Hello prienn & zmontgomery,
Greetings from Chicagoland,
In general, winter modes lets you start in 2nd or 3rd gear, that's all there is to it. This reduces torque at the drive wheels and prevents them from spinning. In some cases, normal mode gets you out of snow better, while on icy surfaces the winter mode may work better, as Mr. zmontgomery has noted.
As in the case of 850, according to the owner's guide:
WINTER MODE:
In this mode:
*In position D, the gearbox starts in 3rd gear and changes up to 4th gear.
*In position 3, 2nd gear is locked and there is no change up to 3rd gear.
In position L, 1st gear is locked.
*These positions always offer kick-down function.
Traction control (TRC) works by controlling the throttle & brakes, which are operated byon-board computer. In some cases, turning off the TRCgives you better traction (going uphill, etc...).
ABS works by turning the brakes on/off via on-board computer. ABS does not reduce stopping distance, it only allows you to steer in case of panic braking on slippery surface. In heavy snow, normal brakes sometimes work better, as snow builds up in front of the tyres.
Enough burble I guess.
Good day,
JPN
