Default Sea foam in oil

I am uncertain/afraid to use sea foam. I am okay about putting it in my gas tank. I just am uncertain about putting in my oil which is a synthetic. Is this okay? How soon must I change my oil after I put sea foam in? Right away or after some driving?

If your engine is pretty clean than it probably is not necessary to run Seafoam or any additive. However, it is safe. I have used it several times in my V50 T5. When I bought my car used, the oil was like sludge. Right after an oil change the oil would turn dark. I started running Seafoam about 1K miles prior to the next 3 oil changes and it cleaned up nicely. I still dump some in once in a while prior to an oil change.

500 to 1000 miles is good, it thins the oil and cleans the built up gunk.

Another trick is auto trans fluid in the engine oil. Just a pint or less, do not to overfill the crankcase.

Trans fluid? I had not heard of that before. Is is safe for O2 sensors?

Don't know about O2 sensors. Prolly not since this trick has been around since carb days. It's old school for sure. It's good for sticky lifters in a pushrod engine, for instance.

A lot of you have hinted about Seafoam and it's effect on your engine internals. Seafoam can be used at every oil change and made resident for the entire service duration. I swear by the stuff, it can work miracles around turbos with coking problems, help reduce sludge buildup and maintains a clean sump pick up screen without doing any internal damage at all. read the label guys, it's fully approved under DOT lubrication standards and no I don't work for them...lol

I am aware of the label instructions. I am also aware of the Volvo owners manual which states, "Volvo does not recommend the use of oil additives." This statement, however, doesn't seem to stop the dealers from using additives. I use oil additives as little as possible and use good oil, Mobil 1 Synthetic or other full synthetic.

AutoNaut every owners manual on the planet says don't use additives, yet you visit your local service department and one of the 1st things they recommend is a fuel system or crankcase additive, But their particular brand. It wasn't 5 years ago that Ford didn't recommend synthetics for goodness sake. Now it's spec oil on their HO plants as well as GM's. I don't replace a quart with a can of Seafoam, you mix in small recommended amounts similar to Gumout additives. 1.5 oz per oil change in a 4.5 too 5 quart system. Gotta read the directions and do it right, if you do you won't have anything but positive results. Happy Motoring Bama
