Hi..
I have a 2004 volvo s 40, still under factory warranty. One day i sat into the car and noticed that not all of the lights in the shifter were working. I went to the volvo dealer and had them check it out, (payed for the check) once they did they told me that someone had spilled some type of liquid on the shifter previously and now it interfeared with the lights, but that it is safe to drive and that nothing will happen. A few weeks later i get into my car and i cant move the shifter from position (p) to R or D or anything. At that moment i took the volvo book and found out on how to manually move the shifter. I read in the forum that it is most likely the selenoid switch and that many people had this same problem before. I tried to take the center console apart but i wasnt able to take it off. And now i have a question.What do you think if i go to the dealer will they tell me to pay for the inspection again? And does this selenoid switch have anything to do with someone spilling any type of liquid on the shifter? (i have been the owner of this car for about 3.5 months, and up until 2 weeks ago everything worked fine) And also does anyone know how long does it take to get the center console off and is it difficult to replace shifter or the selenoid switch??? I'm waiting for some help and thank you for your information!!
