Slipped a bearing in crankshaft
Hi guys.
I have a problem with my 2005 s40 t5. I had a problem with low oil a week ago and I heard what I thought was a valve tick. I did a full oil change and added a can of restore and now it sounds like it's coming from the crankshaft. I had it checked out today and mechanic says he is sure it's a slipped bearing. I'm going to pull the oil pan to be sure this weekend.
What would you do? I'm pretty confident around engines, but I've never attempted an engine swap. I have a few mechanic friends that I may be able to convince to be help. How do I find an engine? My state is very small pop. wise and I can't find any salvageable engines in junkyards. Also Im considering upgrading the turbo while the engine is out.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What's the mileage on the engine? And to turbo upgrade, all up to how much you want to spend, and for finding a salvage T5 engine is pretty difficult in any state, if you do find a T5 it's normally not even worth looking at it.
Because it's not just bearings that get hosed when you lose oil pressure. If you lose pressure long enough to spin a bearing, you'll likely have destroyed the cams and various other small components, even the oil pump will be damaged.
Money may not be an obstacle to some, but I would try to determine the extent of the damage before assuming the worst. Even if the conclusion is engine replacement, spending a little time investigating beforehand costs little and teaches much.
At this point, the diagnosis was not definitive.
