Default Cam seals- confused.

This is crazy... wife went to Volvo this morning. I have to change the cam seal under the VVT pulley on my 2001 S40.
At the dealer, she referred to the pulley side/ timing belt side as the REAR...The dealer said it is the FRONT...said it took 2 different seals. I think, and I will see when I get home, that he is wrong. I believe that the TB side has the SAME seals on both cams. My VVT is on the firewall side of the motor. Which is the exhaust/ which is the intake? I hope I don't get home to find she bought the wrong side of the engine...all I wanted to do is the TB side...

The "front" of the engine is the timing belt side (the left side of the engine as you look into the engine bay from the front bumper side of the vehicle). The exhaust manifold is on the firewall side of the engine (what you also call the TB side), and the intake manifold is on the front bumper side of the engine. The exhaust cam (the shaft towards the firewall side) has 2 seals and I believe that they are different. Hope this helps.

I have a leaking cam seal on the front of the engine, timing belt side. it is the cam closer to the firewall. I have purchased all seals for the cam front and back and the crankshaft front. I thought while I am in there I might as well do them all. My 2000 S40 has 145k. I am not sure if anything changed to the 2001 model but on mine the two seals are definitely different. I can give you the item numbers for the 2000 model if you are interested.

Default Help with the seals Please

I have the seals out. I got the exhaust seal which was a 51x65x7. What is a part number or size for the intake cam seal? ?x65x7
Does anyone here have any tips on aligning the cams prior to putting on the cam gears? I made a tool out of flatbar to hold both in the same plane where the cam cover meets the cam housing. Does this put the cams where they need to be?

If you lined up your timing marks before disassembly, your cam tool will work fine. One shaft line will be high and the other low relative to the seam and the crank mark in its place. Replace the seals with similar size which is readable on the seal face, or try them on for size.

Has anyone actually photographed the cam positions when the cam tool is installed? All you would need is close so that you could install the cam holder then precisely bolt down the cam pulleys to align with the notches on the cover.

I marked my cams but made the mistake of removing the pulleys. Never did I expect the VVT pulley had no key to put it back in the original position. Now I have to work backwards to figure it out. Not impossible but if I bend a set of new valves.....
