smoke on acceleration
I have a 2001 s40 and sometimes after starting the car and taking off if I accelerate hard ( reaching about 50km) there is smoke from the exhaust. I only get it once or twice at the beggining after that there is nothing. Is this normal or is it a turbo problem? I don't see it often but I do drive normal it's rare I accelerate hard and also rare for the turbo to go on.
Thanks
Thanks

smoking on accelleration
I just had the same problem. The easiest way to check out the turbo for an oil leak is to un-hook the big rubber tube on the lower inter-cooler plenum (it looks like a big radiator hose right in the center of the radiator looking unit right in front of the radiator) and see if there is any oil in it.. There is not supposed to be any. If oil has leaked past the thrust plate in the turbo it will be sucked into the inter-cooler and eventually into the throttle body where it will enter the combustion chamber and cause the smoke you see at initial accelleration. You can also check the turbo for end-play by pulling the primary converter off the turbo housing and feel the play in the turbo wheel shaft. That part isn't easy but it takes all the guessing out.
