just recently ,,sometimes the key gets stuck in the ignition...and to get it out,,have t o start the car and hopefully it comes out than....tried turning steering wheel..etc....
what can be the problem? and is this a costly repair

Sounds like a bad shifter ****.

 

I have the same problem on a 2001 s40. Will the shifter **** have to be changed eventually? Is it easy to change?

 

Yes it will need to be changed out eventually.
The **** just pulls off. You twist where the boot attaches to the **** and pull it down then the **** pulls off.

 

I had this problem, alls I did was get some WD40 and squirt it into the button on the bottom of the shifter and that's that! Never had the problem since!

 

did you open up the console Lyonsroar or just squirt wd40 like that?

 

I used that teeny tiny straw that comes with WD40 and wedged it between the button on the knoband the body of the shifter **** and gave it a few squirts, not much, but it fixed it! Also check if your button on the **** is cracked, if so it needs replacement.
