Default sooo yea..

yesterday i filled my coolant back up because i was stupid and didnt know that i couldnt open the coolant cap while the engine is hot... but yea anyways after i tinted my rear windows i started my engine and the temp was all the way on cold and im pretty sure it was idleing around 800-1000 rpms which isnt normal cause it was around 500 -700 before... but yea so i let my car sit a little and the temp gauge started going up intill normal which took like 4 mins... but i start taking it out on the mainroads and when i hit the gas all the way the rpms would "studder" like the rpms would be going up to like 3000 the stop for like half a secound and keep going up the doing the same thing ... but that would stop after i would drive it for a good 5-10 mins then it would run fine ???? can some one tell me some thing so i can not worry

discuss

thanks

Make sure to keep the coolant level in the reservoir between MAX & MIN with 50:50 mixture of coolant & water, but check with the owner's manual or service manual, as some reservoirs have to be filled up to MAX. Whichever the case may be, you must do it when the engine is cold; when the engine cools down, the coolant "contracts" and the reservoir level drops. If there was a puddle of coolant, there is a leak somewhere. Have it checked at an independent shop that specialises in Swedish/European cars. I wouldn't take a Volvo to generic towngarage or franchise shops.

You were very lucky that you did not get burned. Next time when you wish to work on your car, make sure to do your homework; read the owner's manual/service manual/warning labels in the engine compartment. Working on a car can be dangerous, and once a while people get killed as well due to ignorance/macho-attitude.

I've replied to another post of yours. I hope it helps.

Tip of the day: NEVER do ANY coolant work while your engine is HOT!!!

What JPN said was on da money YO! Refill your coolant when the engine is dead cold, this way the coolant hasn't expanded and is giving you a false reading in the reservoir.

I suggest yourun (which I do) Redline Motoroil's product called WaterWetter in your coolant reservoir! Its great stuff and it helps protect your coolant system!
