I bought the car around a year ago. the gas gauge has nvr been right. then recently the speedo went out. i tried replacing both speed sensors still no speedo. at the same time the antilock brake light went on. and it started stalling at stop lights. I figured the antilock brake light would be because of no speedo. im thinking there is a short sumwhere. took it to a dealer and paid 100 bucks for them to tell me what i already knew by pluggin in my code reader. i am a mechanic (mostly do motor building for hondas) Im thinking it might be a short in the gauge cluster. all my fuses are good. any help would be great!

also the car is a 02 volvo s40 turbo.

would a gauge cluster from a 98 work in this car?

 

No, the cluster would not work. You cannot just swap clusters on these cars. The dealer needs to program it to the cars computer or nothing will work. Before you start looking at the cluster, I would take a look at the ABS module. If that goes bad, it will give you the issues you are describing.

 

ok i took a cluster outta a 99 and sleped it in quick sorry didnt look here first. it worked but i had the same problems. i read the codes i have 17 of them..... :/ miss fire on all four., a speed sensor not having a out put. but i already replaced both of them. ad other misc codes. i check all the fuses and the connections. ill take a look at the abs modual when i can
