Default Time for new tires. S40 T5 2005

I will need new tires in around 3000 miles. The car will have 27,000 miles on it. Has anyone tried any different sport tires with any sucess besides the stock Michelins (which have been decent)?

Look at tirerack.com. I bought kumho ectsas. VR rated and inexpensive. Great tire.

Stay away from BFG. I bought a set of summers and while they have decent grip on dry, wet traction is ridiculously low. The Michelins are still the best, but a friend of mine swears by Falkens.

I don't think one can cheap on these tires (not to say you wanted to go cheap). You need to spend some coin to get a decent ride.

I've always been a Michelin fan but the price they wanted for some 225/45/17's when I upgraded to 17" wheels on my S60 was way too steep. I ended up looking around at the local tire dealers, talking to most of them, doing some internet searching and ended up going with the Fuzion HRi. It is not a speed rated tire, though they do make one (Fuzion ZRi), but seeing as I really don't drive such that I needed a Z rated tire I went with the H rated. So far I have been happy with them. Handle good in the rain and we have not had enough snow yet to tell how they do in snow. They are a little bit noisier than the Michelins that I had on (which I switched to my sons 850) but I expected that with a wider, lower profile tire. Of course them being a 45 series vs. a 55 the ride is a bit stiffer, but again that was to be expected. Plus, they were less than half the price of the Michelins. Figured if they last even half as long as the Michelin then even after two sets I would still be out less money than if I went with the Michelin.
