transmission
Had a problem with the transmission of my 2001 s40 last week. Drove it, the transmission shuttered for a bit and then the transmission warning lamp started flashing. The check engine light came on and the car went into "limp home mode". After turning it off and then restarting it, everything seemed okay although the warning lights were still on. Since then the transmission light stopped flashing. Of course the dealership was booked until today. Finally got it in there for them to have a look at it. They ran the codes and got a Transmission Control Module communication code and some other communication codes. The VADIS indicated that the battery was giving a low voltage and needed to be replaced. I am a little skeptical about this "diagnostic" although they assure me that the problem was solved. Keep in mind that the battery was good enough to start my car and drive it there without any indication that it was going bad. No slow cranking or any other indication that the battery was bad.
Now, dont get me wrong.... I will take a battery replacement over a major transmission repair any day of the week. Just doesnt really add up to me. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
