My 2002 Volvo s40 allows me to open the trunk when all of the doors are locked. I know this is incorrect. This should not happen. Where should I begin looking for the problem?

First things first. Check the fuses. If good then check if the electric trunk lock is receiving power when you lock the doors. An analog multimeter works best here. A digital multimeter *should* show the electric pulse too. If the lock is getting power then the problem is the lock. If no power then you have to start following the wires from back to front to see where it stops getting power.
