Volvo maintenance package important to buy for a new Volvo?
Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum, and I want to say thank you in advance for your answers and ideas towards my question.
I recently bought a new 2007 S40 (10 days ago) which I am planning to keep the car for at least 4 years.
After filling out all the papers, we were sent to the finance office, here someone explained to us that Volvo sells a maintenance package for $3000 for 7 years. He said that for the 5 year/50000 mile warranty to be effective, we should only take our Volvo to the dealer (every time that the maintenance light comes up on the dashboard) He said that if we take our Volvo isomewhere else, then if we need to use the warranty Volvo won't know if the problem was caused by taking our car to a different shop, so to keep the warranty -he said- we should take our Volvo to the dealer only.
He said that everytime I take my car for a maintenance inspection, I would have to pay around $525 for the inspection of the proper function of the car. Then he offered us the maintenance package, saying it would be of advantage to us since it would be cheaper than paying $525 every time.
He also said we could only buy that extended warrangy (7 years) the day we bought the car (but that we could always cancel it in the future)
I feel like he wanted to sell us the maintenance, and I bought it because I didn't want to end up paying lots of money in case something goes wrong with the car. At this point I dont know if I should keep it or cancel the extended warranty/maintenance packege.
Please give me your best advised based on your experience

'I feel like he wanted to sell us the maintenance' Just because your not a car guy that doesn't make you stupid. You knew right then something was off.Maintenance and extend warranty are two seperate things.
I have a feeling you may have succumb to high pressure sales. If you would like more help, I would be happy to provide it.
As a side note never supply your full VIN to anyone online because it can be used against you (think SSN). The last 6 digits along with year and type should always give enough for any tech question.
Just let me know.

Thank you for your offer of helping me.
You are right, looking back I think I succumbed to his pressure. Do you think the best thing to do is to cancel the package? They made me feel like I needed the package, so I am still confused about if I should keep it or cancel it. But yeah, I have a feeling they wanted me to buy more for their convenience than for mine.
So, if I cancel it, in what position would I be? Please give me your opinion.
