Volvo s40 2.0d not starting off the key
Hi folks been a volvo owner for a little wile and seem to have bought a lemon lol this is going to be quite a long post bare with me
.
Car is a 2004 volvo s40 mk2 2.0d with 170k miles only modification has been dpf removal around 120k.
been having some problems the last few days with my volvo it all started wile driving the car to work I felt it miss the odd time never thought nothing of it the journey to work takes 30 min in that time it steadily got worse to the point were it won't rev above about 2k rpm once you engage a gear it won't pull above 1500 rpm the car just keeps jerking back and forth as if it's about to run out of derv.
I decided to stop and lift the bonnet and noticed that the clear pipe coming from the filter to the right side of the engine had what looked to me like foam in it instead of diesel when I looked very close it's 1000's of tiny bubbles.
After work lifted the bonnet again pipe was clear car started right up and drove fine for about a mile and back to the usual sputtering and no revving above 2k revs.
I have been putting up with this for the last week or so which is just plan irritating to say he least also yesterday got a message pop up say engine service required had it plugged in and only thing that come up was ADM fluid need topped up I believe this is the dpf fluid this could hardly be related to the sputtering and the 1000's of bubbles in the diesel pipe could it I know from friends having dpf fluid run low and all that happens is the car goes into limp home mode.
Also car had a full service about 2k miles ago and has been running sweet up until now.
As from the last couple days car will now not start under it's own steam it just keeps turning over I turned the engine over this morning for about 5 minutes sold until the battery died still plenty of fuel in the pipes no air or anything hooked up the chain and towed the car towed the car about 10yards and it started why is this?
Took the car a drive very little power but no sputtering let the car sit and idle outside the house for about half an hour turned it off left it for a couple minutes and it wouldn't start again under the key again a little tow about the length of the car and started again wtf.
Done some research and a common problem seems to be the y piece intake so spent an hour today cleaning it and to be honest the inside was cleaner than the outside lol but cleaned it anyway also got a new fuel filter housing plus filter installed everything and hooked up jump leads just to be sure had plenty power and turned over for ages still no start but connected up the tow rope and as usual the car only moved about 20 yards then started was running fine took it for a drive not much power but was driving drove for a couple mile come to the end of a road as soon as i pressed the clutch in it stalled and wouldn't start again.
So towed if to the house and had a thought what if I bypassed the filter for a moment so disconnected the 2 pipes on top of the filter connected them together towed it again this time the car went like s*** off a shovel had loads of power but only last for a few miles and went into limp mode made it back to the house I turned the car off and imeddeiatly tried to start the car again and nope it never starts under it's own steam anymore.
Rang around and a couple people have said it could be fuel pressure sensor went and splashed out on a new one cost £60 installed that still no difference same as before.
Had a mate come upto mine today with another code reader and he pulled up a code 6c42 I googled it and found it to be something to do with an antenna but then noticed it said starting module what might this be anyone any ideas?
To date have
. New fuel filter housing
. New fuel filter
. New fuel pressure sensor
. Cleaned out the intake
. New air filter
Any opinions on this problem some help would be greatly appreciated thanks
