This is a bit of a read so please stick with it.
The car is a s40 2007 with 170k on the clock. Its the 1.6 diesel se model.
I recently took my volvo in for a service. The mechanic dropped me off at work and drove my car back. During this he noticed that the engine timing was off. He changed the timing belt/chain. During the change the oil that came from the system was very viscous and had obviously not been changed at the last service (my fault for not checking regularly). The mechanic refiled the oil but somehow this oil disappeared. At this point he was worried that the turbo was eating the oil, i think it was the radiator that he mentioned. Following this the computer flagged up the diesel particle catcher (the diesel catalytic converter) needed changing. He sourced a 2nd hand one and worked perfectly. At this point the mechanic felt that the car was fine to drive. I have driven it for the last 10 days and seems fine though to drive.
The weather in the UK over the last few days has been very wet. I went shoping yesterday and returned to a oil leak from the front of the car. The leak happens even when the engine is off. I checked the oil but not a bit had been lost. Its still at the fourth line on the yellow reader. I had done 500 miles since i had collected the car from the mechanic. I have checked the oil this morning and there is no change in the level.
I have tried to locate the source of the leak and the best i can do is say that it is coming from an area to the left of the engine block (looking at the engine) next to a black belt. Is there any ideas that i can take to the mechanic to look at e.g. seals? Any help is really appreciated.
