Default S60 2007 oil leak nr LHS lower pulley

Hi,
I searched for this issue but had no luck, I am a new member and need some help with my S60 2007.

I had an oil change 10 months ago and this drip started shortly after.
The car is with me for 2 years and is a dream to drive.
The new oil was mobil 1, as its the best I can locate where I am. My volvo dealer is using valvoline synthetic, the mechanic also suggested I use mobil 1.

A gentle drop of oil has increased and is coming from the location just behind the lowest pulley on the serpentine belt.
I dont know what is located there and my search for this ended up in vain.

So I cant be more specific than this location.

The oil light was not indicating and when I routinely checked the oil level was dangerously low, I topped it up and was very surprised that the temp had not risen and the oil light did not show up, as any low fluid is indicated.

Anyhow, I want to know what is located in the area I described and if this is a major fix or just a seal?
The car has done 48,000 miles so its early for a timing belt change.

Any other suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
HK

What engine is in your 2007? If it is like my 2001 2.4T, then the "lowest pully on the serpentine belt" is attached to the crankshaft. Behind that pully is another one that is for the timing belt. With both of them off, there is a seal.

I would not suggest that it is "easy" to replace if that is the problem, but if you can replace the timing belt, you can probably do this (I believe you will have to do all the steps required to change the timing belt just to get to the pullys to remove to get to the seal). If you are not confident in changing the timing belt, you will not want to attempt this.

Last I checked, the service cost of having the timing belt changed was between $600 and $1100, depending on the labor charge and what else was being replaced (waterpump, tensioner, idler). I would think that the labor cost to replace the seal would not be significantly more. Alldata says the standard labor charge to replace a timing belt is 2.6, and to replace the front crank seal is 2.7.

There are other folks on this forum who know much more about it. I recently did the timing belt/waterpump/idler/tensioner but did not have to change the seal as I had no leakage.

Thats the leak I had on my 2002 s60 t5 114000 miles. Its going to be pricey. The pcv valve on mine went bad and started popping seals like candy. get it fixed soon because it will eventually saturate your timing belt and you will have to change that too.
