volvo s40....Help
My volvo s 40 2003 model....is having issues....the key was stuck in the ignition....called volvo...bought new key...said it was the chip...got it back, installed it in the fob....tried the key....does not work...opens the locks, turns the car over ....does not engage the starter.....does not even attempt to....Help please....my only mode of transportation......
Can you give me a more definitive answer....car is immobilized without key, and dealership is 100 miles away.....?....Do you have an idea?...What are suggestions....any will truly be appreciated.....any!
I don't know how much more definitive I can be. The key needs to be programmed to the car. The car needs to be at the dealer for them to do that. Unless there is a mobile locksmith who does enough Volvo work that they bought the equipment to program Volvo keys, there is no way around it.
Does the old key turn all the way back to the off position? On my 2001 when the gear shift lever is placed in park, sometimes the pushbutton on the front of the gear shift lever does not pop out all the way. When this happens you cannot turn the key all the way back to off and the key remains stuck in the ignition. If you jiggle the gear shifter until the button pops back out then you can hear the solenoid release the ignition lock and the key will turn all the way back and can be removed. In my case I spray back inside the gear shift lever with WD40 or similar and it frees everything up for awhile.
