Volvo S40 no power, won't start, good battery
I just recently bought a 2007 Volvo S40 and have only had it for two weeks. The car has been lazy upon start up since purchased and recently wouldn't start at all. When the key is turned to the start position all the lights on the dash light up but no power, no clicks, nothing. All the lights come on then go dim and the dash then starts to flash all these messages that the steering is gone, airbags are activated as though its been in an accident and shutting down. I had the breakdown crew come and have a look and when they tested the battery was in good condition but read that something is draining the battery -2.2amp. He suggested I keep the car started for at least 30 minutes and get it to a garage. I left the car running and it appeared fine. I went out in the car two hours later and it started fine and ran fine. Parked for the next few hours and when attempting to go back out, no power and dead again with all the instances I mentioned earlier. I tried the unlocking and locking to reset the security but nothing is working. I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I have no experience with the Volvo's and would be grateful if anyone has been through this before. I am waiting on a mechanic to have a look at it but thought I would get some suggestions in the meantime. TIA

Depending on your DIY level that 2 amp drain is pretty big and usually you can find it by going through the process of pulling fuses if you have a test light or voltmeter to let you know when you've found the right one.
The other thing to do would be to disconnect the battery each time you're going to leave the car parked and hook it up again when it's time to go. NOT very handy but get's you by till you can find the problem or get to a shop.

Thanks for that. I really don't know what's going on and need to wait on the garage. Yesterday I attempted to see if it would start and when I put the key in to the second click on the ignition everything lit up as normal and I thought it's going to work. Not a chance, when I turned the next click to where the car would normally start, the dash went crazy starting showing messages like, brake failure, steering failure, airbags then everything shuts off and the car is completely dead. The key even stops working and have to lock the doors manually. With the key out of the ignition the parking lights stay on, the dash stays lit up with all the emergency signals and doesn't go off for hours. My husband had to disconnect the battery just for the lights to go off. Car still completely dead!
For what it's worth, when my battery went on my 2010 V70, the car would start fine one minute and the next, the dash would light up like a xmas tree with all sorts of warnings and no click/turn-over/etc. Interestingly, the car wasn't that old when the battery went...maybe 3 years old.
Any update? I have a similar issue.
