volvo s40 will 07 to 08 tires and rim swap work?
i have an 08 with banged up set of rims
i just bougfht an 07 parts car to fix some accident damage on it
even though the 07 rims dont look as stylish, they are in very good shape and have brand new tires on 2 of them
the 07 rims and tires are the standard rim package 205/60/R16 while the 08 rims and tires are the bigger and nicer sport package 205/50/R17
the overall size differences i can find are:
sport 17" rim and tire
205/50R17
Diameter : 25.1"
Width : 8.1"
Wheel : 17" x 5.5-7.5"
Sidewall : 4.0"
Circum. : 78.7"
Revs/Mile : 805
standard 16" rim and tire
205/60R16
Diameter : 25.7"
Width : 8.1"
Wheel : 16" x 5.5-7.5"
Sidewall : 4.8"
Circum. : 80.7"
Revs/Mile : 786
the 08 is at the body shop so its impractical for me to be able to bolt them on just to try if it fits
i know how sometimes things like brake calipers or wheel offsets can make such swaps impossible but if i understand correctly this was just an upgrade option.
what i dont know is if it also included other things like bigger calipers and rotors that would make a reverse swap problematic, so i wanted to ask here for help to see if any one knows if this could work before i even try going down that rabbit hole
thanks for your help

Yes the 07 S40 rims will fit on your 08 S40. Its not uncommon for people to go -1 on their winter rims (ie keep 17s for the summer and run 16s for winter tires). Note the correct OEM tire size for the 16s should be 205-55-16. Both rims should show an ET 52.5 offset and the brakes should be fine as the 16s are OEM for the 2.4i and the 17s are OEM for the 2.5Ts.

i think your info is slightly off though because the door sticker on the 07 shows oem tire size is the 205/60/R16 for all 3 tire categories listed for the vehicle so those are the correct tires for those rims. or did you mean the 08 should have had 55s instead of 50s on it? to be honest i never looked if the 08 had the correct tires on it but they were all 205/50/R17 on it when we bought it
her's is the 2.4i but it was upgraded with the sport package on it when it was bought new which is where the 17" sport rims on it came from

interesting about the door sticker - every online tire resource I've seen shows the 205/55-16 as the standard size. Its ok to run either the 205/60-16s or the 205/55's - there's about a 2% difference in the rolling size, which is about 1 mph on the speedo at 60. Assuming all four tires are the same, you'd never know the difference.
