vvt solenoid - blocking off

The famous VVT sprocket noise. I plan to replace it, but as for now I'd like to disable it as the sound of it is rather disturbing.
No, not by pulling the contact. That would work, but it would also throw a DTC and I hate looking at that light while driving around.
What about blocking off the oil supply from the solenoid to the sprocket by making a gasket with no holes in it? Would that mess with lubrication of the camshaft or the VVT-sprocket?
You never know,-the engineers at Volvo may have gotten the bright idea of letting the oil supply to the VVT-sprocket also be responisble for the lubrication of the front camshaft bearing which would spell disaster in the long run if the VVT oil supply was cut off.
Has anybody done this successfully?
