Default Water in passenger footwell -- leaking from cover infront of AC drain

First time poster, long time lurker. Thanks for putting together such a great forum....tons of good info here!

I came across an issue with my wife's 2009 S40 that has me stumped.

Water was accumulating in the footwells so I figured it was a clogged AC drain (passenger side). I cleaned the drain out today but still have a leak. I ran the AC for awhile while watching for the water and found the culprit.

It's dripping out of the cover on the passenger side infront of the AC drain. I'm not able to remove the cover completely as the top screws are very high up and hard to get to.

I've attached some images of where the water is coming from.

1. Should there be this much water up there?
2. How do I seal the leak? Or do I have a bigger problem that needs to be addressed?
3. Is there another drain I'm missing somewhere? I can't find anything that's connected to this area.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sean

You can see the water droplet towards the bottom left of this cover. This is located in the passenger footwell.

Here's a further back image for perspective of where the cover is within the passenger footwell.

You sure the drain is fully clear? Not just the hose, but the climate box as well.

Make sure it's not coolant.

I'm confident the drain that's behind (closer to the rear of the car) that leads into the white 90* elbow is not clogged....plenty of water drips under the car when the AC is running.

Is there another drain in this system that gets clogged? I've checked the sunroof drains and they seem find.

Water is clearly accumulating behind the cover I posted a picture of....I can see it dripping from the corner.

Where would I check to clear the climate box out?

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!

I'm pretty sure it's water....appears to be clear and doesn't have any type of smell.

Any ideas on where to look for other clogs?

Thanks again!
Sean

There is only one AC condensate drain.

if your car is similar to 850 and s70's, the drain that drains all the water from the wiper motor is clog. You need to remove wiler arms and the plastic shroud that covers the wiper motor. Check the drain passender side, the sheet metal slopes this way on the above cars

Did you ever solve this problem? I am now experiencing it with a 2011 S40. I'm getting water on the passenger area at the same spot you got it. Thank you in advance for any help!

Find the A/C drain and unplug it. That's really the long and short version. ;-)

Haven't seen a gulley washer yet but the plastic trough under the wipers with drains at either side had both drains completely clogged. Hope the drain for the AC isn't also. I unclogged both sides and it drained really well after. haven't taken the plastic trough off to see any other drain.

The clog could well be under the car (inaccessible unless you get it up in the air and crawl under it). Just look for a tell-tale rubber "schnozzle" poking out through the floor pan.

Did you solved this problem? What was the leak?

I have ths same problem with my V50. Leaking little bit of same spot, like yours. It´s water. I have tested AC drain pipe, it´s not clogged.
