Hey All. I started my '03 S40 when it sounded a little loud. I opened up my hood and located the noise. I think it's some kind of check valve for the brakes but I'm not sure. Does someone know what it is? Brakes worked but they did go out the next time I tried backing out.

Whatever part it is, I would like to try and find it at the salvage yards before I grab my ankles at the dealership but am unsure what years I would look for. Thoughts??

That is the brake vacuum check valve. It goes from the intake to the booster then to the vacuum pump.
You can only buy it with the hose.
Depending on your Vin# if you want to check the price here is a few part numbers.
If your last 6 of the vin# is before 685753 the part# is 30616993. If it is after 685754 the part# is 30620958.
