Does anyone know where the AC low side port on a 2001 Volvo S40? I was told it is a black or blue cap, however I noticed there are two black caps...

The low side is the one on the left side in the pic. Low side port is the smaller port of the 2. Also the high side pipe is small for higher pressure. The low side is bigger for lower pressure.

I've got a 2006 S40 - is this **** in the same location?

The only one I can find that looks similar has a number on it, like "6 nm" or something similar.

Thanks!

Tech, To recharge the AC on my 01 s40, do I need to "drain" the system before adding additional freon or can I simply add freon to the required lb.? Thanks!

Just add R134a until the bubbles in the sight glass on the receiver/dryer disappear. Lots of tiny bubbles like foam indicate a very low charge. You will notice the bubbles getting bigger as you fill until they disappear. Once the sight glass is clear STOP. It's full. In this case more is not better. Fill with the can upright too. You do not want to add liquid R1234a into a receiver/dryer system as it may damage your compressor as the fill point is before the compressor. Liquid does not compress.
