Default '01 S60 needs spark plugs

I need to change out my spark plugs and wires but have noticed the plugs I have are not like the NGK's in that they have the three-pronged spark tips...

Where is the best place to pick up the three-pronged spark plugs for my S60?

A parts store, they're Bosch Correct? I personally hate bosch but buy whatever you want. I ran regular NGK's in my 01.

volvo (nippon) denso = ngk except with Volvo printed on them and about 50 cents cheaper per plug.

Volvo doesnt make plugs.... they obviously get the other companies to do it such as Bosch or Denso, so why not just buy the same thing without paying extra for the Volvo name....

That said, I use Bosch Iridium Fusion plugs on mine..

NGK Iridium IX for the accord

OEM from IPD.

Nothing better.

Also you dont have spark plug wires - the coil sits right on top of the plug

Re: Spark Plugs:
Ordered the OEM plugs from IPD two days ago. These still don't look like the ones I removed, though. <see attached pic>

Re: Wires:
I'm confused then...please forgive me:

If the coil sits immediately above the plugs, what are the wires that come out of the coils called?

It was the 'flex conduit' around these wires that is crumbling to the touch.

Bender,

Thank you for your guidance.

I finally received and changed out the plugs ... the proper ones from IPD. perfect.

If I understand it correctly, the ignition coils are what get inserted above the spark plugs and actually make contact with them. Is this correct?

Next in line are the wires that plug into the ignition coils... what are these called and how would I know if they need to be replaced.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they do. Like I said in a previous post, the conduit, or shielding, that is around these wires is now crumbling and now my car is idling and firing incorrectly....

The car has 120K miles. How would I know if the ignition coils need to be replaced?

Thank you.

Are you getting CEL ? It should indicate which cylinder is misfiring. Did you make sure to plug the same wire to the ignition coil that it came from ?
