I've read old posts on this forum but couldn't get a definative answer, so here goes.

I have an 01 s60 and would like to change the plugs my self. What are the best plugs to use for an s60 and are there any quirks to changing them or is it pretty standard...i.e remove cover, remove coils, change plugs?

I use bosch platinum.

 

Are Bosch coppers OEM? If so, should I go with those or use platinums, platinum +, or platinum 4

 

The regular Bosch platinum's are OEM.

I believe they are Bosch regular 3 prong plugs.
The Non-turbo use them the Turbo cars use the Platinum (From the factory)

But the platinums are fine in the Non-turbo to.

 

Volvo originally comes with Bosch plugs. So Bosch platinum from the regular auto store would do. 1/2 the cost of Volvo branded.

 

Tech, what are your thoughts on putting NGK Irridium IX's in an '02 S60 AWD with 53K on it?

You can try I haven't gotten any feedback on them.

I like using NGK in all my other cars(Not Volvo's)

 

Yes, you can spend 3 times more on plugs, but for what purpose? As long as you match to manufacturer's OEM, you should be fine. IMHO.

Spend you money on some other volvo parts

 

How much are the Bosch Platinums? Sparkplugs.com has the iridium ix's for about 5 or 6 bucks each.

 

Here in Canada, they are $9/pair from Canadian Tire, dont know about dealer

 

Update

Changed the plugs, air filter and cabin filter myself. It took all of 45 minutes and cost $70CDN in parts from the dealer. Dealer had quoted $470 for the 144k tune-up.

Used OEM plugs which are NOT platinum, they are three pronged and cost $18 for all five plugs. I decided against buying bosch platinums -- why mess with a good thing.
