2001 S60 Can someone ID part # 979662 ?
Hello everyone...Can someone ID part # 979662. It's a rubber grommet, but to what? I found it in my driveway after my wife went driving around in the snow. I don't have a photo of it, but its about 1 inch in diameter, black & has a small hole in the center. Any help is always appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks for the fast reply.... I guess I'll start looking once I can get the car up & take a look under.... Just one more question... what purpose does this part have? Since it has a hole in the center it's not going to prevent water from entering... please enlighten me...
Thanks!
Thanks!
#4 has seven different part numbers. so it might look different than the one in the picture. It is probably a drain plug.
maybe tech has a better Idea what it is.
As for the pics. it is easy to upload to photobucket, and insert the image that way

Talk about coincidence... I, too, was backing out of the garage - through a large mound of snow which fell from my garage roof - and when I stopped to close the door, I found the same grommet (P/N 979662 65) on top of the flattened snow... d'uh! Thought it might be a bushing from the exhaust but your photo and information on this part corrected that notion.
Thanks a bunch - now I will await my next trip to the dealer (300km away) to see if the tech can locate the hole with a missing grommet... and not be overly concerned.
cheers!

I found one in the driveway also. The next time I put the car up on jacks I found the hole in the body it went in. It was a hole near the foot well on one of the lowest parts of the car. No wonder they get scraped out so easy.
I was walking down to get the mail this morning and found the same one in our drive, after my wife left for work; but our car is a 2005 ford focus. Cannot believe I am not the only one to find the very same item in the drive! I was really worried something serious was wrong with the car.

I found one in my driveway, too, off my S60. It scrapes if I don't pull out at the correct. So, if I see where it scrapes, I probably know where it goes, and when I'm likely to find it in my driveway again!
