Question 2001 S60 Upper Radiator Hose Replacement

I need to change the upper radiator hose in my 2001 S60. I goes from the top left hand side of the radiator to the top of the engine block , next to the power steering pump. I need to know how can I easily drain some radiator fluid without draining the entire radiator? I just want to remove enough so that when I replace the hose, radiator fluid won't spill everywhere... Please let me know if there is a procedure for this.... Thanks

There is a drain on the drivers side of the radiator. Its located on the bottom of the car through an access whole in the splash pan. Its a 13mm deep socket. Only drain what you need. Be sure not to OVERTIGHTEN the drain it will brake off. Make sure you test drive the car after the hose is put on to bleed the system. An upper hose usally only takes about 1/2 a gallon if you dont drain the radiator. Good luck..

Thanks for the fast reply.... Just 1 more question which might be obvious.... Once I replace the hose, do I refill the radiator through the reservoir tank? Or is there another way? Thanks again....

You always fill through the coolant reservoir.........add coolant to the minimum level and then drive the vehicle for a short distance. Then check the coolant level.........if it's not at the minimum level, top it off to that level. Do this process 1-2 times more until the coolant level in the reservoir is at the mid to upper range markings on the tank when engine is hot.

Cool i'll be needing this thread once i change mine too. But i have a question my car is already 70,000kms when i press my radiator hose i can hear something like crushing inside. I think that is rust inside forming up? What do you guys think? i am not experiencing overheating with my car ever since but of course prevention is better than cure i wanna maintain a good habit in keeping my car in good condition
