Hi All - completely new to this forum, but need some important advice. I have a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4 (non turbo). It has 83,000 miles on it, I paid around $6300 for it (after taxes). I have had it for around 18 months and put roughly $1500 in repairs into it. Recently, I noticed some humming on the freeway when getting around 50 mph.
I took it to my mechanic (I trust) and he indicated that it needed a bunch of work. Including sway arm bushings, bearings, front breaks, etc. The totaly came to around $2500 buy he discounted 30% (I get him a lot of business) and got down to $1800. Here is the dilemma, additionally about 2-3 times a month the tranny will slip at low rpm's. I have done some research and found that there are some issues with these trannys.
Obviously my dilemma is do I want to put another $1800 if I think the tranny is going bad right now.
I am looking for some fellow volvo owner advice! Any ideas?

OK, I have been on this awesome site for the last hour looking @ transmission issues in the s60, scares me to death. I own the car, so my thinking is dump as little money into it as possible and drive it until I decide to purchase.
But I am not sold on that idea. I will talk to my mechanic, possibly get the software upgrade for the stop nuetral "feature". It may have been done in the past, but not sure. I had the tranny serviced around 10k ago (full flush) but still have some minor slips (as noted above). Again, it's usually low RPM, like 2-3k.
Thoughts?

Well I spoke to my mechanic. I only plan on keeping this car another 8-12 months at most so he is not going to do the CV joint. We have it down to around $1500 in work and he is going to flush the tranny as part of it + call the dealer and see if the update has been applied and is necessary. Hopefully this will be good for another year after this.
