Default 2001 Volvo s60 is dead. Is there any value? How to unload? Any suggestions? Thx!

Have a 2001 Volvo S60 with 115,00 miles on it, that no longer runs. Had transmission issues for the last couple months, and now gears don't engage - car just revvs in gear.

I'd like to get some money for it, rather than just giving it away.

Other than dealing with lowballers offering $100 on Craigslist, does anyone have a suggestion on whether there is another outlet? The car ran great, it looks great, and has been well-maintained - I'm the original owner.

Is there any value with this car?

Thanks.

Marc

If it has a blown trans, there isn't much value unless someone is going to do the work themselves. Not a lot of people are willing to pay much and then drop $2000-$6000 to get it to move.

Where is the car located? My daughter just married her 2004 S60 2.5 with a power pole (sideways) and we are considering finding a chassis to swap her drivetrain into.

we are still in the research phase, not sure if the 2004 & 2001 share chassis configuration and if the drivetrain is compatible.

Send me an IM if you still have it.

Thanks,
OJ

Anyone know what a salvage yard might pay for an 01 S60?

I'm in Phoenix by the way.

Thanks.

These cars are known for tranny issues. Its usually the valve body. Had it happen to me and i have an 06 with 60,000 miles when it failed. If you do some research and look around u might be able to get it done for around $2,000. These cars are pretty reliable as long as you take care of them. I wouldn't get rid of the car just cause of the tranny. Just my thought though. Especially since your the original owner and said u have maintained it well.

Too far away to make is worth our while.

Thanks for the info.

I just bought a rear-ended running 850 for $250. So, I would guess it's less than $250.

Agreed. Volvos---especially the older ones (850, 940, S70, S90, etc.) can be very reliable, as long as you provide generous amounts of TLC. That's the thing about these older Volvos; with most maintenance, or repair tasks, you can save a lot of money by investing time into doing the research, and learning to DIY. It may not be easy, but these cars will always require special user care, which is worth the time, if you plan on keeping these cars running.

My oldest brother sold his kaput 1998 S70 Base for $160 to a small towing company/used car dealership. It was t-boned roughly a couple of years before he sold it back in late 2011, and ended up a busted rear-left passenger door, and window. I can't imagine how much it would've been worth, if we sold it now. This was also long before I had sufficient knowledge about how to do anything with Volvos, really.

Here in San Diego we have Catholic and Jewish organizations that take cars, running or not and give charitable tax write offs for people.

They even pick them up.

Thanks alot for the responses!!

Maybe there's a Volvo enthusiast knowledgeable about repairing transmissions, that lives nearby. Gonna try craigslist first, then call in a charity to pick it up.

Special thanks to Volvo for recommending I don't ever need touch the transmission fluid! F... you very much.
