Default 2001 Volvo S60 T5

I'm about to purchase mine. 128k miles.

What's a good price? The guy is a Volvo repair specialist. He just replaced the transmission.
He is asking $6500 for it. I was think that if he puts new tires on and Pegasus wheels, I'll buy it for $6500. I haven't made my offer yet.

But why should I pass on it? It drives really well. I found the same year 2.4T for $4500. That should encourage the guy to lower his price. I really like the car. I just want the best price for it.

$6,500 for an '01 with 128,000 on the clock is steep, even with a re-manufactured transmission. For contrast I bought a 2002 s60 AWD in just before last Christmas. The '02 I bought had the same mileage (128,000) as the one you are looking at plus it has the Volvo NAV System and almost new tires up front. At that mileage it should have had the 120,000 miles major tune and a new cam belt, tensioner, and water pump. If those services have not been completed add another $1,200 - $14,00 if done at a dealership. Also, the PVC system should have been serviced by now.
I realize used car prices have increased in this market, but I would only buy the car you are looking at after checking it very carefully.

Sounds good to me. Does $5000 sound like a good price? I'm going to low ball him. He wants to sell it, and I can buy the 2.4T if need be.

BUYER BE AWARE, '01 -'02 have a high auto tranny failure rate.

Even though, yours was replaced (why???) it doesn't mean much unless done by volvo. Indies may use wrong fluid, not reset adaptives, don't do drive cycle, etc etc.

So, the point is, avoid '01

The Tranny was replaced by the mechanic for that exact reason. New tranny from newer model, I think. I'll ask him

EDIT: Turns out tranny is a rebuilt '01 with 80k miles.

rebuilt trannies fail in a short time due to what I described above, if not done by the dealer.

NOT TO SCARE YOU MORE, but '01 also have a high failure rate of ETM's, expensive $$$$. High failure rates of brake booster, high failure rate of DIM's

Do you want to me continue?

Pass and look for an '03 or newer

I was so happy.

Here's what I will do. I'm going to talk to my dad, and the mechanic. I will explain my concerns. This mechanic has been good to us. We've bought at least 5 Volvo's from him in the past, and he's been doing our Volvo work for the past 15 years. I will ask him specifically about the transmission. He will be honest with me. He doesn't want to lose our business, and he wants to sell the car. I'll get a 50k mile warranty out of him. That's it. He offered drivetrain warranties to us before.
If I can't get a warranty of some sort, I'll probably just buy an S70 GLT for the time being, and just save up for the right car. 2006 S60R.

The '01 was the first production year for the S60, it is a major headache and has very poor reliability, and if you get one you'll end up hating all volvos. Most of the people that are sour on volvos had an '01

Try to get a '98 S70 T5 for now. Great car with a great drivetrain that lasts forever, if well maintained. Save your money for the S60R '03+ you really want.

The worst volvos ever, '99 S80 T6 auto and '01 S60 auto. Do a search and look them up. Sorry to spoil your party, but I was trying to give you a heads up.

Uhh, i got a friend with an 06 R, and he is not too happy with it's reliability right now haha. blows through shocks (give it that dallas roads are not good), just had a throttle body replace, tires wear out at 10000 miles.
