2004 high frequency noise
#2
Amp earth.
It's my understanding that the amplifier is constantly on with the ignition regardless of the stereo function.
if the whine is a high pitched noise that increases in pitch with the engine it's whats called an alternator whine. This is quite common in the s60 range and it due to poor earthing in the stereo system. I would personally check the amplifier under one of the front seats and make sure it's got a good earth and the contacts are clean on the connectors.
I have known a couple of people having to replace the underseat amp for another unit which normally fixes this problem.
Sometimes this earthing issue can manifest it's self by causing loud pop's from the speakers when the stereo system is turned off.
Hope this helps, please post any fix or solution you have found.
